hsa anyone built a heavy bag(punching bag) stand out of wood?
I think a 4 or 5 inch think circular wood frame could easily hold the required weight/force? but the base is the question. the models sold in stores only work with heavy weights placed on the legs, so I want to anchor my beam into the base that ive yet to deside on. could I use an 8x8 2 inch think wood base? think of a 6'6'' wooden pole, with a wood extension (2-3 feet out) the bag would hang from. screwed into the 8x8' 2''think base, with smaller beam support legs. I think that i can stand and move around on the base using my body weight to help stop the base from moving (grips under the basecould be added. ) has anyone had luck with this?
I have a steal unit that i used to use. what if i drilled it onto a platform? my metal stand works, but is less than stable if your throwing combos at the bag.
I agree with freak boy. The stand we have we had made & it (4x4 hollow steel beams) still moves when hitting combos even though it took several grown men to put it in place. If you can't have some one hold the bag while you train I too suggest you use a "combo" of materials both wood &steel its still going to be hard to get it stable enough for combos if you have any PSI behind the hits.
