The reason I ask is that a real mountain bike is much harder to ride on streets than a road bike, since the tires have much higher rolling resistance. For example, I get tired riding my old Trek 820 circa 1993 after a mile, but can easily go 6-7 on my Trek 7.3 road/fitness/commuter bike. If you need a bike that can be comfortably ridden on both street and unpaved bike path, look into cyclocross models or hybrids with smaller tires. If you are sticking to paved streets, take a look at the bikes made by Specialized or Trek that have straight handlbars like a mountain bike, but have road tires and a nice light-weight frame.
